Breddos Tacos in Clerkenwell is too popular for its own good, what with the restaurant being miniscule and the crowds of hungry diners so lengthy. So it was super exciting when Breddos Kingly Street opened this autumn – a space about five times the size of the inaugural restaurant, with not one but two bars, and a host of new dishes exclusive to the Soho location. Win-win-win situation!
The original Breddos boys are still involved in the business daily, but with input and investment from the big dogs at Ennismore (The Hoxton hotel people) – so the restaurant has a polished but very cool aesthetic and vibe. The artwork is fun, the plates are clearly handmade (with fingerprints to prove it) and the staff are super friendly.
The margaritas are punchy, or the agua frescas are there for when you’re behaving. Tacos come two per plate, with the pork belly and Baja fish going down a treat. There are some big dishes for sharing too – including an entire octopus on a plate, if you’re feeling brave! Order the Elote corn on the cob on the side – it’s deliciously naughty – though not as bad as the churro ice cream sandwich for dessert!
